Renovation FAQs

Got questions about renovating?
We’ve got answers.

Renovating can be exciting — but it also comes with a lot of decisions. Whether you're updating a bathroom, reworking your layout, or planning a full-home transformation, it's natural to have questions. We've pulled together some of the most common ones we hear from homeowners across Waikato to help you feel confident before you get started.

How do I know if renovating is better than rebuilding?

Every project is different. Renovating can be a great way to add value and functionality without starting from scratch — especially if you love your location. We’ll chat through your goals, budget, and the state of your current home to help you decide what makes the most sense.

Can I live in my house during the renovation?

In many cases, yes. We’ll help plan the renovation in stages to minimise disruption where possible. However, for large-scale projects or major kitchen/bathroom work, you might need to relocate temporarily. We’ll always give you plenty of notice.

Do I need building consent for a renovation?

That depends on the scope of the work. Structural changes, plumbing relocations, or major alterations usually require consent. The good news? We’ll help you figure out what’s needed and guide you through the process — or handle it on your behalf.

Can you help me design my renovation?

Absolutely. We offer in-house design support and work with trusted local draftspeople and architects. Whether you’ve got clear ideas or need help developing them, we can guide you through layout changes, material choices, and smart space planning.

How much will my renovation cost?

Costs depend on the size, complexity, and finishes of your renovation. We’ll give you an indication of this after an initial consultation and site visit. We’re upfront about pricing — no guesswork, no surprises.

How long will a renovation take?

Timeframes vary depending on the scope of work. A kitchen or bathroom reno might take a few weeks, while full home renovations can take several months. We’ll give you a realistic timeline at the quoting stage and keep you updated every step of the way.

Can you help with kitchen and bathroom renovations?

Definitely — these are two of our most popular renovation types. We can modernise layouts, upgrade finishes, improve functionality, and make sure everything is up to code, especially around plumbing, electrical, and moisture protection.

Do you work on heritage or older homes?

Yes, we do. We understand the challenges that come with older villas and bungalows, and we’re experienced in working around existing structures while maintaining character. We’ll advise on what’s possible and what to watch out for.

How do I get started?

Start with a no-obligation consultation. We’ll discuss your ideas, look at the site, and provide honest advice about what’s possible. From there, we can help with design, pricing, consent (if needed), and scheduling your build.
